Category R – Inland Waters category includes vessels operating solely on sheltered waters (tidal lagoon, tidal river, waters within the breakwaters of a port) and inland waters (waters of any dam, lagoon, lake, river or wetland, which are not tidal waters), as well as any pleasure vessels (a vessel that is used solely for sport or recreation). Requirements:

25 practical hours attended at a SAMSA approved training facility OR

50 practical hours signed off by an appropriately qualified skipper (category R or higher) OR

100 practical hours (category R vessels) signed off by the student & registration documentation of the appropriate vessels.

We offer:

25 required practical hours (Scheduled as per mutual availability)

One required theory class (Generally one evening in the week as from 18:00)

SAMSA required theory and practical examinations (Generally on the last Saturday/Sunday of the month)

Category E – 1NM from Shore category includes vessels operating on inland waters day or night, as well as vessels operating less than 1nm from shore and not more than 15nm coastal from an approved launch site, day only. SAMSA Accredited skippers courses

Requirements:

25 practical hours attended at a SAMSA approved training facility OR

50 practical hours signed off by an appropriately qualified skipper (category E or higher) OR

100 practical hours (category E vessels) signed off by the student & registration documentation of the appropriate vessels.

We offer:

25 required practical hours (Scheduled as per mutual availability)

One required theory class (Generally one evening in the week as from 18:00)

Category C – 15NM from Shore category includes vessels operating on inland waters day or night, as well as vessels operating less than 15nm from shore, day only. SAMSA Accredited skippers courses

Requirements:

25 practical hours attended at a SAMSA approved training institution OR

50 practical hours signed off by an appropriately qualified skipper (category C or higher) OR

100 practical hours (category C vessels) signed off by the student.

We offer:

25 required practical hours (Scheduled as per mutual availability)

Two required theory class (Generally one evening in the week as from 18:00)

SAMSA required theory and practical examinations (Generally on the last Saturday/Sunday of the month)

Category B – 40NM from Shore category includes vessels operating on inland waters, limited to 40nm from shore, day only. SAMSA Accredited skippers courses

Requirements:

50 practical hours attended at a SAMSA approved training institution OR

100 practical hours (category C or higher vessels) signed off by an appropriately qualified skipper (category B) OR

200 practical hours (category C or higher vessels), signed off by the student.

We offer:

50 required practical hours (Scheduled as per mutual availability)

Two required theory class (Generally one evening in the week as from 18:00)

SAMSA required theory and practical examinations (Generally on the last Saturday/Sunday of the month)

Category B – Coastal Skippers category includes vessels operating on inland waters, limited to 40nm from shore, day & night. SAMSA Accredited skippers courses

Requirements:

150 practical hours, of which at least 50 must be logged at night, attended at a SAMSA approved training institution OR

200 practical hours (category C or higher vessels) signed off by an appropriately qualified skipper (category B) of which at least 50 must be logged at night OR

200 practical hours (category C or higher vessels), signed off by the student of which at least 50 must be logged at night.

We offer:

150 required practical hours, of which at least 50 hours must be logged at night, (Scheduled as per mutual availability)

Three required theory class (Generally one evening in the week as from 18:00)

SAMSA required theory and practical examinations (Generally on the last Saturday/Sunday of the month)

Students are not required to repeat modules already completed whilst obtaining any of the above qualifications. 

The short range radio operators course is designed and adheres to all guidelines as set out by SAMSA in GOP 540.01. 
Students are taught how to operate a radio using the correct protocol during distress, urgency, safety and routine communications. 
Other modules that are covered are, Radio installation, testing, set up, frequencies, batteries, maintenance and Digital Selective calling (DSC)

Requirements:

The only pre determined requirement is that a Student should have an open mind and enjoy learning new skills.
